This would've happened anyway. It's human nature. Let people run free... and they'll kill each other.

— Niragi on Beach's hasty censure

"The Beach, Part 5" (びいち⑤ Bīchi ⑤?) is the first chapter of the fifth volume and the 20th chapter overall of the Alice in Borderland manga, written and illustrated by Haro Aso.

Overview[]

Arisu is bound in a room alone at the Beach, while Niragi and his men take advantage of an indignant Usagi. Chishiya sets foot to leave the Beach after stealing the pip cards, but he is later confronted by Kuina about his betrayal. A group of Beach members on mobile tries to leave hotel grounds only to discover that it has become a game arena for the Ten of Hearts, called the "Witch Hunt." Instructed to congregate in the main lobby, Beach begins to sell out Asahi and Usagi as the titular witches responsible for the murder of Momoka Inoue through Niragi's persuasion.

Summary[]

In Room 411 at the Beach, Arisu worries about not making it to another game before his Visa expires that night. In a nearby room, Usagi is sexually assaulted by Niragi with the help of his men.

Meanwhile, Chishiya sneaks into the royal suite and steals the pip cards from a vault hidden behind a painting, using the previous 8055 code to unlock it. Before he gets to leave the Beach, he runs into Kuina by the gate, who confronts him about merely using Arisu as bait for his plan, with Usagi and herself as Arisu’s alleged accomplices. Chishiya believes that he had done it to survive and offers Kuina to follow him with a guaranteed 50% chance of leaving the Borderlands. Before he can leave, an explosion goes off in the distance after a group of Beach members tries to leave the hotel grounds in a car. Kuina thinks it was caused by a gas leakage, but Chishiya thinks otherwise, tossing his bracelet beyond the gate and activating the lasers which inevitably zap the object.

Now unable to leave, Chishiya explains to a surprised Kuina that games are held in different facilities, so the Beach was bound to be a game venue sooner or later. All television monitors in the hotel flash the game screen, which interrupt Niragi and his men from restraining Usagi further. Learning that the game is set to be the Ten of Hearts, the remaining pip card in the deck, Niragi lets Usagi go in the meantime, and they set off to the first floor lobby as instructed by the screen.

Arriving at the lobby, they discover the body of Momoka Inoue with a knife plunged into her chest. The Beach executives and members gather one by one as Asahi mourns Momoka's death. The game is announced as the "Witch Hunt" with the objective of identifying the person who stole Momoka's life, or the "witch", among the members of the Beach. The game will be cleared if the witch is burned alive at the bonfire outside the hotel within 120 minutes.

The game starts. An recounts Kuzuryu's and the Hatter's deaths and believes that their killer must be at the Beach. Meanwhile, Niragi attempts to encourage the witch to step forward and reveal their identity, but to no avail. Figuring that the prime suspect must be one of Momoka's close acquaintances, he interrogates Asahi about her whereabouts during the time of the murder. Asahi is at a loss for words and her inability to answer raises suspicion from the crowd. Now branded as the witch, Niragi suggests to sacrifice her first, but Usagi refuses.

Niragi finds Usagi suspicious and successfully riles up the crowd, convincing them to side with him. With the crowd pinning Usagi and Asahi as the witches, Usagi chastises Niragi's animalistic attitude for enjoying the crowd's chaos.
